LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAM

 

Program Description:

The Practical Nursing Program at MedNoc Training College is designed as a rigorous 1,556-clock-hour curriculum completed over 12 months. It aims to prepare students to meet the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) standards and to successfully pass the PN NCLEX exam to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). This structured and comprehensive approach ensures that Practical Nursing students at MedNoc Training College receive theoretical and practical preparation to excel in their careers as Licensed Practical Nurses.

Program Structure:

These courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C before students can enroll in Practical Nursing core courses.

Graduation and Licensing:

Upon successful completion of the Practical Nursing Program, graduates receive a Certificate of Completion and a Training Completion Affirmation Form. After passing the NCLEX-PN exam, they are eligible for licensure as LPNs by the State Board of Nursing.

Learning Framework:

  • Practical Nursing Theory: Conducted in classroom settings through lectures, activities, assignments, group work, essays, quizzes, and exams.
  • Practical Nursing Simulation Laboratory Skills: Skills application through simulation, demonstrations, practice, and evaluation in a controlled environment. Skills mastery is assessed through skills checkoffs, where students must achieve a minimum grade of 80%, with up to three attempts allowed.
  • Practical Nursing Clinical Skills/Knowledge: Clinical learning occurs in various healthcare settings such as Long-Term Care facilities, Acute Hospitals, Clinics, Medical Offices, and Home Health settings. Students apply theoretical knowledge and skills learned in the classroom and labs under the guidance of clinical instructors.
  • Practical Nursing Service Learning: Students must complete 24 hours of unsupervised service learning, divided into three sessions of eight-hour modules aligned with their coursework (Fundamentals, Med-Surgical, Maternal and Pediatrics, Mental Health). Service learning must be conducted in different environments, and students must submit a reflective essay or presentation for each session.

Additional Information

  • Skill Lab Equipment: The Skills Lab is equipped with modern healthcare training equipment, including hospital beds, wheelchairs, manikins for various procedures (Phlebotomy, EKG, BLS, ACLS, PALS), and other essential tools.
  • Learning Environment: Classrooms are furnished with chairs, tables, mounted TV screens, and internet-connected computers for instructional purposes. The school provides free Wi-Fi access to students.
  • Facilities: MedNoc Training College occupies multiple buildings totaling 20,512 square feet on 3.48 acres of land in Oklahoma City. Facilities include administrative offices, computer labs, testing centers, multiple classrooms, a student lounge, and dedicated spaces for clinical and simulation labs.
  • Security and Access: Campus buildings are secured with locked doors during non-operating hours, monitored by security guards, and equipped with security alarms and cameras. Ample parking is available for students, faculty, and staff.

Practical Nursing Program Objectives:

  1. Apply the nursing process systematically to provide effective care to culturally diverse individuals, families, and groups.
  2. Utilize nursing theory and interdisciplinary theories to promote health and healing through the nursing process.
  3. Successfully complete the LPN program.
  4. Prepare for and pass the NCLEX-PN licensing examination.
  5. Demonstrate competence to enter the workforce as an entry-level Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  6. Deliver basic patient care under the direction of physicians, registered nurses, or advanced practice nurses.
  7. Implement therapeutic communication skills effectively in healthcare settings.
  8. Communicate proficiently using interpersonal skills and information technology.
  9. Practice nursing in a safe, effective, and caring environment upon entering the workforce.
  10. Establish a strong foundation in nursing principles and skills.
  11. Assist in assessing patients’ physiological, psychosocial, socioeconomic, and cultural needs across the lifespan.
  12. Practice practical nursing in adherence to legal and ethical standards.
  13. Participate in the development and evaluation of healthcare plans under registered nurse supervision.
  14. Demonstrate caring, accountability, honesty, professionalism, and integrity as required for licensed practical nurses.
  15. Practice nursing within the legal and professional frameworks.
  16. Understand and comply with the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act.

Practical Nursing Program Outcomes::

  1. Engage in critical thinking to make patient-centered care decisions and deliver evidence-based nursing care across diverse populations.
  2. Create and maintain a safe and effective care environment.
  3. Prepare for entry-level employment as an LPN/LVN.
  4. Maintain a program completion and graduation rate of at least 70%.
  5. Achieve a first-time NCLEX pass rate of at least 70%.
  6. Maintain a post-graduation employment rate of 70% for program graduates.
  7. Practice nursing in accordance with the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act.

  • NOTE: If the start date of the PN Program falls on a holiday listed in this handbook, classes will commence the following day. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, the first class will start on the first Tuesday.
  • NOTE: Most classes typically run from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. However, some classes may extend until 6:00 pm.
  • NOTE: Clinical times may vary and can start at 5:30 am to 3:30 pm or 1:30 pm to 11:30 pm on weekdays or weekends, depending on the clinical facility.

 

Admission Requirements

The Practical Nursing Program uses either Direct or Indirect methods of admission to process and admits applicants into the PN Educational Program.

Direct Admission To Practical Nursing Program

To be admitted directly into the PN Program, applicants must meet the following admission requirements:

  1. Adherence to all General Admission requirements outlined in the school Student Handbook.
  2. Minimum age of 18 years.
  3. Possession of a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, or a higher academic degree (Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral) with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
  4. Current Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification without abuse notations.
  5. Current Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) certification without abuse notations.
  6. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA). Students may be admitted without a BLS card initially but must submit it to the Office of the Director of Admissions & Registration before starting the PN Program.
  7. Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and comprehending English.
  8. Completion of all Pre-Nursing Courses with a minimum grade of C in each course. Students who have completed these courses at an accredited institution of higher learning, including Technology Centers, may transfer credits for courses categorized as Pre-Nursing if they achieved a minimum grade of C.

Indirect Admission To Practical Nursing Program

To be indirectly admitted into the Practical Nursing Program, students must first be admitted into the Pre-Nursing Program to complete the required Pre-Nursing Courses and achieve a minimum grade of C in each course before enrolling in the PN Core Courses. Admission criteria for indirect admission are as follows:

  1. Adherence to all General Admission requirements outlined in the school Student Handbook.
  2. Minimum age of 18 years.
  3. Possession of a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, or a higher academic degree (Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral) with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
